The Fast and the Furriest benefiting GCHS is April 7

A 5K run/1-mile walk fundraiser, one of the biggest benefits for Gulf Coast Humane Society, is April 7 at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers.

“The number of registered participants is already well ahead of the 2017 mark at this time, and numbers are staying consistently ahead of last year’s record pace,” said GCHS Executive Director Jennifer Galloway.

The run/walk event is dog friendly, and many participants bring their furry friends along for the jaunt.

“The word is out about ‘The Fast and the Furriest’,” Ms. Galloway said. “We have received great publicity from the media and people are excited about the growth of this event. And why not? It’s a fun-filled morning with your pets in a family-oriented environment. Plus you leave knowing you helped the shelter animals.”

Early registration offers participants a $5 savings versus signing up the day of the event.

“Help GCHS have another record-setting event,” said Jill McKee, event chairwoman. “This is a very important fundraiser for the shelter and the success of it resonates through the rest of the year.”

The first 500 5K runners and 1-mile walkers will earn a Finisher Medal, with the top fundraiser receiving a trophy. Traditional age group medals will be awarded to top chipped runners and to the Fastest Dogs in three weight categories. The coveted Triple Crown Awards will also be presented at the event.
