The Details: One of the pleasures of vegan food is how it translates a meatcrazy world into plant-based dishes — sometimes in loveably awkward ways. In one case that’s the “ham” that fills this burger: a breaded slice of something or other that is certainly, well, substantial. Along with thick slices of pickles, red onion, mushroom, tomato and lettuce this was quite a tasty burger, a nice combination of hot crispy fried and cool fresh crunchy veggies complimented with a tangy sweet-and-sour sauce. The cauliflower “wings” are a perfectly conceived concoction, tossed in a craveable spicy coconut chili sauce. The big slice of banana cake with walnuts and drizzled blackberry sauce was big enough to share, a medley of some of my favorite flavors, earthy and on the dry side — I would recommend it with a big glass of whole milk straight from the teat of a Wisconsin dairy cow (or your favorite plant-based milk, of course). ¦
