The boat, loaded with hurricane relief supplies, docked at the Margaritaville Key West Resort & Marina and began offloading 20 chain saws, 34 generators, a desalinization plant, 400 cases of water, meals for thousands of residents and four Cape Coral firefighters who will assist with the island’s recovery.

“We’ve been serving Key West for 25 years and we decided that instead of bringing tourists to the island we’d bring the supplies they so desperately need,” said Linda Miller, general manager of Key West Express.

The Key West Express, along with its partners, Ocean Properties and the Cape Coral Fire Department, put together the aid package in what could be regular relief trips to the island ravaged by Hurricane Irma.

The boat will remain in Key West as long as possible to provide recovery services and return to Fort Myers Beach and “Do it again.”

“We’re hoping to continue to do this until the island is back on its feet,” Ms. Miller said.
