The Estero Historical Society presents Florida Weekly Palm Beach Editor Scott Simmons as guest speaker at its meeting from 9:30- 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at Country Creek Country Club in Estero.
Well-known in the area for his column in Florida Weekly on antiques and collectibles, Mr. Simmons will take his audience on a journey through Southwest Florida’s development, showing how it has changed and grown over the past 75 years, and will utilize some of the his personal collectibles associated with Florida’s growth as a tourist destination during that period.
For residents and visitors who only know places like Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita and Estero as they appear today, his revelations will present many surprises.
His mother’s family moved to Fort Myers from Indiana in 1958, and the region’s massive growth and change has been a part of Mr. Simmons’ life.
Admission to the program is $10 and includes continental breakfast. Guests should use the Corkscrew Road entrance to Country Creek Country Club.
