Garden Council announces annual award recipients

Special 2020 honors have been announced for the annual Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council.

Sylvia Swartz of the Garden Club of Cape Coral, received the Berne Davis Honorary Service Award. The award is presented annually to a deserving member for community service, special projects, going above and beyond in the society, and making a difference in advancing the goals of the Garden Council. Additional award nominees included Pam Dorchak, Periwinkle Garden Club, and Barbara Moore, Poinciana Garden Club.

Additional awards were also announced:

¦ Sandy Troy-Pennington, Royal Palm Garden Club and Poinciana Garden Club, was given the Rainbow Award. This award is presented to the person displaying expertise on a consistent basis.

¦ The Perennial Award was presented to Diana Lintner, Crown Colony Garden Club, for her work behind the scenes.

¦ Susan Lawson, Garden Club of Cape Coral, Potpourri Designers, was honored with the Busy Bee Award for her leadership role.

The Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council was formed in 1957. Membership provides an opportunity to learn about floral design, growing plants suitable for this locale and conservation methods. The council assists in educating and beautifying the community and improving the environment. A speakers bureau provides speakers for meetings and events. The council is a member of the National Garden Clubs, the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs and American Public Gardens Association.
