Boxing youth gala set for March 10 at Collaboratory

The inaugural SJC Boxing Youth Mentoring Gala will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 10 at Collaboratory in Fort Myers. A benefit for the youth mentoring program, the event will celebrate the historic boxing gym and its iconic trainer, Steve Canton, and their contributions to boxing and the Southwest Florida community. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn and support the youth and amateur programs at SJC. Special guests from the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame will be in attendance. Lois Thome of WINK News will be the master of ceremonies.

The cocktail reception will start at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Dinner will feature a choice of sautéed cod picatta and salad, whipped potatoes, roasted vegetable medley, dinner rolls, lemon meringue tart and coffee or sautéed chicken breast Rosa Maria and salad, whipped potatoes, roasted vegetable medley, dinner rolls, lemon meringue tart and coffee. The dinner will be catered by G3 Catering Company.

Auction items include lunch with Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson; lunch with former heavyweight champion Pinklon Thomas; a signed Duran Glove; a fishing charter with Capt. Charlie; a month of gym training at SJC Boxing; a signed Malcolm Butler Super Bowl framed picture; a framed six-time New England Patriots Super Bowl Picture; wine tasting certificates; a $100 gift card at Red Lobster; and two designer jewelry sets by BethExpressions.

There will be also a showing of the 60-second trailer of the documentary, “Worth the Fight.” The film makes its world premiere at the Fort Myers Film Festival which takes place May 17-21.

Dinner tickets are $125 each and a table for six is $650. Collaboratory is located at 2301 Jackson St. in Fort Myers.
