Free Junior Achievement event to honor volunteers, teachers

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida will host a volunteer and teacher appreciation event from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at Six Bends Harley-Davidson, 9501 Thunder Road in Fort Myers.

The event is free and open to the public and will feature free food, refreshments, prize drawings and an awards ceremony to recognize volunteers and teachers for their contributions.

Teachers and volunteers make the mission of Junior Achievement a reality by bringing the organization’s curriculum to life, sharing their personal backgrounds and professional expertise to create a Junior Achievement program that is unique for each student and classroom.

Throughout the 2015-16 school year, Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida partnered with more than 150 classroom business volunteers in order to bring Junior Achievement programs to more than 8,700 students. This year’s totals are still pending, but Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida anticipates that programs will have reached more than 9,600 students during the 2016-17 school year.

During the appreciation event, local students will share stories on how Junior Achievement has positively impacted their lives through compassionate volunteers and the essential business skills taught through the Junior Achievement programs. The event will also provide these students with valuable networking opportunities with other Junior Achievement supporters in attendance. Prospective volunteers or guests of current volunteers are also invited to attend the event to learn more about supporting local students as a Junior Achievement volunteer.
