Community prayer vigil set for Feb. 23 at school

The Dunbar Neighborhood Watch and Mayor’s Task Force is hosting a community prayer vigil on Thursday, Feb. 23 at the Dunbar Community School, 1857 High Street in Fort Myers.

The event starts at 6 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

This will be the seventh year for the community prayer, which encourages unity in the community.

“We come together to pray for victims of violence and the families that have lost loved ones,” says Taunya Cola, the event’s organizer. Ms. Cola is also coordinator of the Dunbar Neighborhood Watch.

“I started this to let families know that they’re still being thought about, still being prayed for. We want them to know they are not forgotten.”

In addition to praying for families that have been the victims of violence, attendees of the candlelight vigil also pray for law enforcement officers, city and county officials, and the school district.

“This isn’t just for the Dunbar community,” adds Ms. Cola. “It’s for everybody. It’s about love. Come light a candle for a loved one.”
