America’s hottest illusionist, Jason Bishop, plays BIG ARTS at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 2. Mr. Bishop performs stunning and original state-of-the-art magic at his shows. Each show features awardwinning sleight of hand, exclusive grand illusions, his cutting edge Op-Art illusions, and even close-up magic projected onto a huge movie screen.

Tickets are $36 for adults and $12 for students and children.

Royal Opera Company presents ‘La traviata’

BIG ARTS has penned a partnership agreement with DigiScreen corporation to bring international performing arts companies to the big screen in Schein Performance Hall. Captured live at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, BIG ARTS and DigiScreen/Opus Arte presents “La traviata” with The Royal Opera Company. Opera megastar Renée Fleming’s sumptuous Violetta in “La traviata” will be on screen in high definition at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6.

Alfredo convinces Violetta to elope to the countryside, leaving the tensions of Parisian society behind, but their arrangement threatens to bring scandal on Alfredo’s family. Facing a mortal illness, Violetta knows their love is doomed and attempts to free Alfredo from burden by returning to Paris, a decision that comes with dramatic results. Alfredo’s stern father eventually discovers that Violetta’s love is truly noble, while only too late Alfredo discovers the truth of her selfless sacrifice.

“La traviata,” one of Guiseppe Verdi’s best-loved works, is an opera in three acts based on Alexandre Dumas’ “La Dame aux Camélias.” It was first performed in Venice in March 1853.

‘Six Women’ artists reception is April 10

BIG ARTS opens an exhibit Friday, April 2, with recent artwork created by Sue Baker, Carina Björck, Marcy Calkins, Paula Eckerty, Sarah Edwardson and Rita Mach Skoczen. An artists’ reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10. The exhibit is open through Monday, April 26. Founders Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Reception on tap for Craft Guild exhibit

BIG ARTS will host an artists reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, for the Southwest Florida Craft Guild 25th Exhibit of Excellence.

The Southwest Florida Craft Guild was founded in 1977. It has exhibited at BIG ARTS for more than 25 years to help promote public appreciation of the dynamic fine craft field. The guild’s mission is to encourage high standards of performance and accomplishments in fine crafts. Guild members accomplish this mission by participation, promotion and education through shows, exhibitions, demonstrations and art scholarships.

The guild’s works will be on display in Phillips Gallery through Monday, April 26.
