Editorial cartoonist speaks at BIG ARTS

How many times have you looked at a painting, listened to a tune, read a poem or seen a photograph, and wanted to know what the artist was thinking? As part of the ARTSalon series, BIG ARTS has invited editorial cartoonist Doug MacGregor to speak in the Phillips Gallery at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8.

For 30 years, Mr. MacGregor has been creating five editorial cartoons a week for
The News-Press. His work has also been in USA Today with an occasional guest cartoon on the opinion page.
He has won several state and national awards for his cartoons, including Best of Gannett eight times and numerous Society of Professional Journalism and Sunshine State awards.
Mr. MacGregor has exhibited his work in many galleries, including the Alliance for the Arts and Rauschenberg Gallery.
He works in a variety of mediums, using pen and ink to draw his cartoons. He adds color digitally with Photoshop on a computer. He also uses watercolor pencils and loves to paint in oil and in acrylic.
Mr. MacGregor has published a number of books on his cartoons, including “Doug MacGregor’s Cartoons: A Twenty-five Year Retrospective.” The book covers his cartoons from Jimmy Carter to George W. Bush, from city halls to state legislatures. He has also written and illustrated four children’s books.
