COURTESY PHOTO The Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club has announced the theme “A Season of Joy” for Holiday House 2009. Holiday House is a Southwest Florida tradition that has taken place for more than 30 years. Club members and volunteers will decorate and embellish the beautiful homes, lawns and grounds of the Burroughs and Langford- Kingston homes in downtown Fort Myers with lavish displays exquisitely decorated in gold and silver.

“We look forward to Holiday House every year and consider it to be our gift to the community,” said FMWCC President Sandee Foster.

Holiday House 2009 opens to guests on Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 23. Opening night coincides with the downtown festival Holiday Stroll, a parade led by the mayor in a horse-drawn carriage. The public is invited to stroll from Centennial Park down First Street as the street lights come on one by one as the parade progresses. The stroll stops at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center where the main Christmas tree will be lit. The stroll culminates at the Holiday House homes. The hours for Holiday House are 5 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free.

The downtown parking garages will be open and free of charge. Also, a free trolley service will be running from each parking garage and will transport visitors to and from the homes.

Holiday House has something for everyone. In addition to walking through these two festively decorated homes and grounds, children can visit Santa each evening at the Langford- Kingston Home. Local music and dance groups will provide entertainment each evening.
