Storm Smart awards free hurricane package to local family

SPECIAL TO FLORIDA WEEKLY

As part of this year’s ongoing “We Care” program, in which deserving families are awarded a free hurricane protection package for their entire home, Storm Smart has provided hurricane protection to a Lee County special education teacher and her family.

“Lisa McClanahan carries a heavy burden,” says Storm Smart CEO Brian Rist. “Her husband, Clancy, is permanently disabled, with mounting medical bills. She is a mother to two teenagers, teaches full-time in a special education environment and comes home to a stack of bills and a home in disrepair. Ensuring their safety during a hurricane won’t solve all their problems, but it takes one off the list.”

When it was discovered the McClanahans were previous customers, further investigation found they only protected the few openings they could afford. “Hurricanes don’t discriminate and a home must have protection on all openings”, says Storm Smart operations director Mike Killeen.

Once identified as a “We Care” candidate, the selection committee made the very easy decision to complete the protection package of their home at no cost.

“We are so very grateful for the help Storm Smart offered us during these very difficult times. It’s rare to find a company that shows they care this much about people in the community. We appreciate their giving spirit and their compassion,” says Clancy McClanahan.
