FGCU hosting entrepreneur workshops Nov. 7

SPECIAL TO FLORIDA WEEKLY

The Florida Gulf Coast University Small Business Development Center presents “Turning Your Passion to Profit,” an educational workshop and mini tradeshow for new and existing entrepreneurs on Saturday, Nov. 7. The event is set for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lutgert Hall on campus.

The full- and half-day workshops will focus on subjects that pertain to the small-business owner. Questions about accounting/taxes, legal issues, funding, and information technology will be discussed.

“Now more than ever, business owners need to be prepared and understand the changes in the business environment,” said Suzanne Specht, assistant director of the SBDC. “Business owners have to work harder and smarter to keep their doors open and this workshop is going to provide the necessary resources to do just that, in one place and in one day.”

Local experts in their respective professions will teach the six one-hour courses. There are 13 classes to choose from. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose which courses will benefit them and their business.

In addition to the workshops, a mini tradeshow will take place for attendees to pick up important business information. A portion of the proceeds raised from the workshop will be donated to the Small Business Resource Network scholarship fund for small business owners.

Luncheon speakers will include Gene Landrum, who created the Chuck E. Cheese’s concept of family entertainment, and author of several books, including “Entrepreneurial Genius - The Power of Passion” and Lorna Kibbey, president of Kibbey Leadership Solutions, who will address the audience on networking tips that will get you noticed.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast. The full day, sixcourse workshop is $79 in advance or $99 at the door. The half-day threecourse workshop is $49 in advance and $69 at the door. Both workshops include lunch.
