SW Florida Symphony is ‘Playfully Yours’ in Cape Coral and Sanibel
The Southwest Florida Symphony takes the Chamber Orchestra out to Cape Coral for the first time in the 2009-2010 season with “Playfully Yours.” The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral.
The Southwest Florida Symphony will be performing an encore presentation of “Playfully Yours” as part of the Sanibel Series at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Schien Hall at Sanibel’s BIG ARTS.
This program will feature light-hearted pieces such as Rossini’s comedic overture, “The Silken Ladder,” which has comic moments for everyone to enjoy. Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony, with its various passages that were initially intended as musical jokes for the listeners, will have the audience guessing at where the punch line is. The program will hit its high point with Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto,” featuring concertmaster Reiko Niiya completing the fanciful journey as the symphony spotlights one of the greatest and most well-known violin concertos of the Romantic era.
Tickets start as low as $20. For tickets or more information, contact the symphony box office at 418-1500 or visit www. swflso.org.
