The Gulf Coast Symphony performs the final of this season’s Magic Carpet Family Concert Series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. The event will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, at 2691 N.E. Pine Island Road, North Fort Myers.
These concerts are sponsored in part by the Target Foundation and the Bireley Foundation. This concert is free and open to the public. No tickets or advanced reservations are required.
The theme of this Magic Carpet Family Concert is “Stories in Sound.” The concert explores how music tells stories and how it reflects different cultures and backgrounds. The concert program features Mozart’s “Magic Flute Overture,” Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” Rimsky-Korasakov’s ”Scherazade,” Rossini’s “Overture to The Thieving Magpie” and Brahms’ “Tragic Overture.”
In addition to the concert, the Gulf Coast Symphony’s will host its popular “musical

petting zoo,” which gives children at the concert a chance to “visit” and “try out” different instruments and interact oneon one with the musicians, starting at 2:15 p.m.
The Gulf Coast Symphony has been performing these family concerts for the past 13 years. Designed for children of all ages, the concerts are the perfect introduction to the symphony orchestra. Children can sit on their own “magic carpet” as they are taken on a journey through the sights and sound unique to a symphony orchestra. Interactive demonstrations, explanations, and one-on-one interaction with orchestra members are all elements of these events.
