Arts Academy courses offered at Edison State
This fall, Edison State College will begin offering a new menu of courses designed for the art enthusiast. From sculpture to print, metalsmithing to music, instructors bring local, regional, national and world wide experiences into the classrooms at Edison State College. Classes will be held at the Lee Campus, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers. Beaded Jewelry Design
Students will learn the basics of jewelry making, the tools and proper usage, and the variety of materials that are available. This six-week course will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 27-Dec. 13. Cost is $120.
Calligraphy for Beginners
This course will enable students to successfully develop a solid calligraphic foundation using the italic hand. Students and instructor will use their class time practicing and receiving individual instruction. This course will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 6-Nov. 10. Cost is $160. Limit of 15 students per class.
Digital Movie Making for Beginners
Beginning students will work one-onone with a professional movie producer to master the technical and aesthetic basics of the digital moviemaking process. Students will film short scenes in each class and collaborate as a film crew in the production and creation of one or more final short films. This six-week class will be held on Saturdays, Oct. 10-Nov. 14, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost is $260.
Drawing Fundamentals: Colored Pencil
Learn the fundamentals of color theory, as class members to mix colors, learn value contrasts, intensity contrasts, temperature contrasts, arranging compositions, and experiment with possible techniques to understand the foundations of making art. This beginners' course will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 27-Dec. 1. Cost is $180.
Glass Fusing Workshop
The class will be a hands-on experience using these methods to create original pieces. The costs of materials depend on the projects you are making. This four-week session will be held on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 9-30.
Intro to Figure Drawing
If you wish to learn how draw the human form or have curiosities wishing to hone your skills of observation, then this is the class for you. This six-week class will be held on Wednesdays, Oct. 28-Dec. 2, from 7-9 p.m. Cost is $180.
Method Acting for Beginners
Students will learn and participate in the fundamentals of method acting as developed and practiced at the world renowned Actors Studio in New York and Los Angeles. This seven-week class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 27-Dec. 15, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $540.
Precious Metal Clay
Metal clay is a term applied to several forms and types of metal powders mixed with organic binders and water to form a malleable material that can be shaped, molded or worked as a typical clay, dried then fired either in a kiln or with a torch with causes the binder to burn away leaving a finished piece that is pure metal. This six-week class will be held on Wednesdays, Oct. 28-Dec. 12, from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $120.
Sculpting With Fabric and Paper
This class is an exercise in textile and natural fiber sculpting using Paverpol, a textile hardener new to the U.S. Learn about this new medium from Holland that is sweeping the U.S.A. and its many artist communities. Hold fabrics and other fibers in "freeze-motion," seal many other natural items that will be water-proof and may be used inside or outside. This two-week class will be held on Saturdays, Oct. 10 and 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $100.
Jewelry Metalsmithing for Beginners
Beginners will learn the basic techniques of metalsmithing and jewelry design, which includes layout, sawing, piercing, filing, soldering and finishing. Becoming proficient in these skills is essential to the creation of well-made jewelry. Demonstrations will be given by the instructor to familiarize the student with the proper techniques involved in developing each of these primary skills. This six-week class will be held on Mondays, 6- 9 p.m., Oct. 26-Nov. 30, or Tuesday mornings, Oct. 27-Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $140.
Russian Culture
This eight-week course will provide an overview of Russian culture from the 10th through the 20th centuries. This eight-week class will be held on Thursdays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 1-Nov. 19. Cost is $160.
