'Serious and deteriorating'

It was a point underscored by the massive truck bomb that killed scores of civilians this week in Kandahar, which had not, until then, been a focal point of Taliban violence. . On Sept. 2, 1666, in the earlymorning hours, the Great Fire of London breaks out in the house of King Charles II's baker on Pudding Lane near London Bridge.
