Creative Theater Workshop gains nonprofit designation, holds auditions for new show
The Creative Theater Workshop Inc. has recently become a nonprofit organization, which will enable it to continue to bring quality children's theater to the Lee County area. All donations made are tax-deductible and CTW is now eligible to apply for public and private grants. This will let CTW continue providing full-length musical productions to the community and award more scholarships to its program, which started in 2006.
CTW's mission is to encourage and promote an interest in the theatrical arts by providing workshops and producing fulllength musical productions in order to educate, entertain, and enrich the community. Through CTW, young talented artists not only gain the experience of performing a fulllength musical, but also gain new knowledge through weekly workshops taught by CTW staff and outside members of the community. Previous workshops have included mime, Fosse-style dance, tap dance, stage combat, theater tech and audition techniques.
CTW's next production will be "Beauty and the Beast" in November, with auditions being held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 8 at the Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.
CTW is also hosting its first-ever theatrical summer camp this summer. The camp is being held at the Gulf Coast Christian Fellowship on Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Three sessions that last two weeks each have been planned. Campers will learn various theater techniques and attend workshops during the first week of session. The second week they will incorporate the techniques into a full-length production and perform for family and friends on Friday. Each show is free and open to the public. The productions will include "School House Rock, Jr.," "Charlotte's Web," and the "Best of Broadway."
