Alliance raises $4,000 for youth art education

Lee County Alliance of the Arts' recent fundraiser, Grapes & Glasses, raised $4,000 for youth educational programs, including Summer Art Camps and the all new Afterschool Arts Program. More than 100 guests sipped wine, enjoyed live music, crafted wine charms and appreciated artwork displayed by students in their first week of camp.

Beyond money raised by ticket sales, the Alliance created art supply baskets that upon purchase will be given to underprivileged children.

"Students deserve a full box of crayons and a full palette of paints to explore their creativity," said Scott Guelcher, education director at the Alliance and former art teacher. "At the Alliance, we hope to provide our youth with the necessary tools to achieve their goals."

Mr. Guelcher, along with several other Alliance member artists, participated in Grapes & Glasses by painting a set of wine glasses that were included with themed silent auction baskets.

Take the opportunity to send a child to Summer Art Camp by donating a scholarship. Contact Mr. Guelcher at 939-2787 or e-mail education@artinlee. org.
