President Truman's pianist featured on 'Gulf Coast Live!'
The personal pianist of President Harry S. Truman, George Manos, will be the featured guest on WGCU's radio show "Gulf Coast Live! Arts Edition" at noon Thursday, July 9, on 90.1/91.7 FM. Mr. Manos, a Naples resident, will be in studio with "Arts Edition" host Amy Tardif.
As a pianist, conductor, composer and music instructor, Mr. Manos performed in venues such as Bethlehem Bach Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival and the Killarney Bach Festival. He has worked with artists such as Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Leopold Stokowski and Igor Stravinsky;
and has performed for President Truman, his family, and inner circle, Eleanor Roosevelt, Princess Elizabeth and Prince Charles and Princess Diana of England
Mr. Manos has written a book titled "The President's Pianist: My Term with Truman and My Life in Music." The book is filled with stories about President Truman and many of the classical music greats of the 20th century.
