COURTESY PHOTO Triple Threat Theatre Camp 2008 Beginning next week, seventh, eighth and ninth graders will have to opportunity to become a "triple threat," singing, dancing and acting at the Lee County Alliance of the Arts' second annual Musical Theatre Camp at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre.
Students will be instructed in all three facets of musical theater: singing, acting, and dancing. Each week focuses on different themes, such as "Rockin' on Broadway," "Around the World" and "Shows about Showbiz." Students will work on scenes and songs from famous Broadway shows like "Legally Blonde," "Wicked," "The Little Mermaid," "High School Musical" and many more.
Areas of study include various forms of dance, basic music theory, acting technique, vocal performance and an audition workshop to put skills to the test. Special seminars on make-up, tap dance and pop singing are featured during the appropriately themed week. Each week, the camp culminates with a cabaret performance every Friday in the Off-Broadway Palm, complete with professional lighting and special effects, where everyone gets a chance to shine.
As a special bonus, the campers will be attending a lunch and performance at the Broadway Palm each week, watching either "Mulan Jr." or "Peter Pan." After the show, they will participate in a question and answer session with professional actors and receive a backstage tour.
This year's camp will be taught by professional actresses Keara Trummel and Amy Marie McCleary. Both have appeared in numerous productions at the Broadway Palm as well as regional theaters throughout the country.
The "Triple Threat Theatre Camp" runs from June 29 through Aug. 7 and is specifically designed for students entering grades 7-9. For more information, contact Scott at the Alliance of the Arts, at 939-ARTS (2787) or education@artinlee. org.
