Habitat for Humanity tops 1,000 homes in Lee County

On May 29, Habitat for Humanity of Lee County dedicated its 1,000th home in the community. The roof was raised earlier this year in memory and honor of Habitat's founder Millard Fuller, who passed away in February after creating two international ministries and helping house more than 1.5 million families. Habitat for Humanity of Lee County's 1,000th home was built in LaBelle, as the affiliate serves both Lee and Hendry counties. Only four other Habitat affiliates in the world have raised as many homes as Lee County's chapter.

Habitat for Humanity of Lee County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing in the community. Since 1982, the affiliate has provided 1,000 families a safe and affordable place to live. Through the use of volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent housing for families who otherwise could not afford it. Homes are sold to the homeowners at no profit on an interest-free mortgage, making homeownership an affordable reality.
