Nita's Sweet Bean Café hosts singer-songwriter showcase

Chip Withrow Chip Withrow Local singer-songwriters will soon have a new showcase for their original music. Nita's Sweet Bean Café, which currently hosts a popular open mic night on Fridays, is adding a Wednesday showcase just for musicians who perform their own songs.

The showcase kicks off on May 27 from 7-10 p.m. Performers can play up to five songs in 15-minute spots. They are encouraged to arrive shortly before 7 p.m. to sign up. The evening will be hosted by Fort Myers singer-songwriter Chip Withrow.

"With the turnout we have had on Fridays, I think we now need to add an extra night just for those who play original music," said owner Nita Flores. The Friday open mics will still offer a stage for those who perform cover songs as well as originals.

Nita's Sweet Bean Café is in the Denny Grimes building at 1870 Clayton Court in Fort Myers, next to Sam's Plaza. For more information, call 275-9000 or visit myspace. com/ftmyersjava. Nita's is now on Facebook as well.
