City announces road closure

Main Street from Heitman Street to Monroe Street is closed while crews install underground utilities as part of the City of Fort Myers Downtown Utility & Streetscape Improvements Project. Construction on this block is expected to last approximately four to six months. Monroe Street from Main Street to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is expected to close mid-June for underground utility work.

To access U.S. 41 during the Main Street and Monroe Street closures, motorists may travel west on Bay Street, south on Heitman Street, west on Main Street to north/south U.S. 41. A second alternate route to access U.S. 41 is south on Broadway, west on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, south on Monroe Street, west on Victoria Street to north/south U.S. 41. (A map of the closure and alternate routes to U.S. 41 is available on the project Web site at www.fmstreetscape. com.)

Second Street from Lee Street to Fowler Street is scheduled to open at the end of May.

This schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather and unforeseen underground conditions, etc.
