Star Trek (Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana) In the maiden voyage of the starship Enterprise, Kirk (Pine), Spock (Quinto) and crew face off against a Romulan madman (Bana) who blames Spock for his family's death. Director J.J. Abrams' film is an exhilarating adventure that's respectful to its source material while boldly going in exciting new directions. In terms of story, visual effects and performances, this movie could not be better. Rated PG-13
Outrage
(Barney Frank, Mike Rogers, Charlie Crist) This muckraking documentary exposes the (mostly) male Republican politicians who are secretly homosexual and vote against gay rights ordinances to cover their hidden truths. It's interesting to see how self-hating gay men make life worse for other gays, and director Kirby Dick's desire to expose hypocrisy is admirable, but it's ultimately a witch-hunt without an endgame. Not Rated: Adult content.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine ½
(Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston) In this prequel to the "X-Men" trilogy, we learn how and why Logan (Jackman) becomes Wolverine, and we watch him battle his brother Victor (Schreiber), who in the Marvel Comic franchise later becomes Sabretooth. The story is a bit scattered, but the movie is full of fun and impressive action sequences that nicely satisfy the "wow" factor we're all hoping for. Rated PG-13.
