Fort Myers organizations issue an invitation to 'Stomp the Violence'
Teen dancers are urged to "Stomp the Violence" on Friday, June 12. The event takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at Billy Bowlegs Park, 951 Marsh Ave., near Lee Middle School.
The competition is open to all teams in grades 6- 12. The winning team will be presented with a cash prize. There is no registration fee and applications are available online at www.yesworks.net .
"Stomp the Violence" is a supportive, fun-filled teen event promoting the significance of non-violence within neighborhoods and communities. In an effort to promote talent and creativity, as well as team spirit, the event will feature a competition between local step-dance teams.
In addition to the competition, the event will also showcase partner organizations and agencies that provide services and programs for area youth. More than 26 government, nonprofit and faith-based organizations from the Youth Services Coalition will be working together to enhance the quality of life for the youth of Fort Myers through this event. The aim is to provide an opportunity for youth from all over the city to gather and bridge cultural, socioeconomic and neighborhood lines.
The event is being put on by the City of Fort Myers Ward 1 Council Office, Fort Myers Recreation Division and the Youth Services Coalition.
