Naples Museum of Art hosts student exhibition May 3-17

Midnight, oil, by Will Barnet, 1983-84. Midnight, oil, by Will Barnet, 1983-84. The Naples Museum of Art will showcase works by local aspiring artists in the first-ever Student Art Exhibition from May 3-17. The exhibition will be displayed in the Drackett Gallery in the Philharmonic Center.

Works by students from kindergarten through 12th grade, from both private and public schools in Collier County, were selected by art teachers to be part of this showcase of talent.

An opening reception will be held on May 3 from noon to 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Naples Museum of Art features seven decades of Will Barnet

The Naples Museum of Art will present "Will Barnet: Works of Seven Decades," featuring works from all phases of Barnet's career, including approximately 30 oil paintings, along with prints and drawings. The exhibit will run from April 25-June 28.

Mr. Barnet's career as an American artist has spanned almost the entire 20th century - and continues into the 21st. Now 97, Mr. Barnet is internationally recognized for his figurative and abstract paintings and prints. Although best known for his distinctive figure studies, Mr. Barnet also embraced abstraction, often combining abstract and figurative elements in his art. His work is found today in the most important museums in the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney and the Guggenheim museums in New York, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Philharmonic Youth Chorale recital to showcase wide range of music

The annual Spring Recital of the Philharmonic Youth Chorale, directed by James Cochran, will feature the 85-voice ensemble of young people ages 7 to 17 performing a variety of music, including Broadway hits, folk songs and standard choral works representing various musical eras and genres.

The recital takes place at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts on Monday, May 4, at 7 p.m.
