Relay for Life takes to the streets in Fort Myers May 1
You can walk for life. You can walk for a cure. You can walk for art. But on Friday, May 1, in downtown Fort Myers, you must walk for something.
The American Cancer Society's second annual Fort Myers' Relay for Life of downtown will take to the streets, joining Art Walk along the bustling streets of downtown's historic business district.
Survivors will be honored by making the first victory lap following opening ceremonies at Centennial Park, where city councilman Michael Flanders and Warren Wright will be on hand to kick things off.
"We must continue to reinforce our battle against cancer and the families it impacts," said Wright, who lost his mother to cancer. "I'm very committed to supporting this fight and helping these people and their families. It's an honor and a privilege to be asked."
Caregivers will be honored for their dedication. Luminaria candles will line the track at 9 p.m. to honor the survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle to this disease.
Participants, survivors, family members, loved ones and members of the public are all encouraged to join in supporting this worthwhile cause, which will be complimented by Art Walk and Friday Night Live at Patio de Leon in downtown's historic business district.
"It's a great time and a good chance to support a worthwhile cause and enjoy arts and entertainment downtown," said Raymond Aulen, owner of the Indigo
Room.
