Celebrate Earth Day

Southwest Florida residents looking for things to do on Earth Day will have a number of options.

The Sierra Club Calusa Group and the Happehatcheee Center will host their 8th annual Earth Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at Koreshan State Park, which will feature free kayak rides all day on the Estero River. Naples Roots and Shoots will demonstrate how to protect the environment and the Humane Society will teach kids all about how to take care of pets.

The park is located at 3800 Corkscrew Rd. in Estero. For more information, call 777-0186.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Bell Tower will host an Earth Day Party and reception from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in the hotel ballroom. Complimentary beverages, appetizers and an "Earth Day Cake" will be provided for hotel guests and clients.

On Thursday, April 23, the hotel's management and staff will plant a Florida Magnolia and conduct a Bell-Tower clean-up and can collection.

On Friday, April 24, the 2nd Annual Earth Day Cancer Can Crush will be held with all proceeds benefiting the Crowne Plaza's Relay for Life Team and the American Cancer Society. Staff will be taking all the aluminum cans that have been collected in the past weeks to the parking lot to prepare them for recycling. The Crowne Plaza hotel is located at 13051 Bell Tower Dr. For more information or to book an event, call 482-2900 or visit www.CPFortMyers.com.
