Play reading at Sanibel Library
The members of Island Writers Group One are taking on a new dare. On April 15, at 7 p.m., at the Sanibel Library, they will read Bob Maxeiner's new play "Legacies."
The two-act drama presents the twists and maladies that keep a dysfunctional family together, as they deal with legacies that tear them apart. Mr. Maxeiner's writing has been read in many programs at BIG ARTS. He is the author of the novel "Transplant," two books of short stories, some poetry and several other plays.
Members of the group who will read are Chuck Higgins, Maynard Poland, Peter Hilger and Wally Kain. Playing the family's tangled matriarch is Carole Greene. When members read the play for themselves at a regular weekly meeting, they decided the script might interest members of the other writers groups and the many islanders interested and involved in creative process. Play readings, script in hand, by skilled or unskilled actors, are a necessary process in the evolution of a play. A valuable part is audience comment at the end of the evening.
A voluntary donation at the door will be accepted for the benefit of the library.
