EATON Dr. Alexander M. Eaton of Retina Health Center co-authored an article
that appeared in the February 2009 issue of Retina, the journal of retinal and vitreous diseases. The article is titled "Increased Incidence of Sterile Endophthalmitis after Intravitreal Triamcinolone Acetonide in Spring 2006." Dr. Eaton conducted the research along with Dr. Kimberly Stepien and Dr. Janet Davis of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami and Dr. Glenn Jaffe and Junaid Raja of Duke University. The research identified a problem that occurred with the use of a common medication used in ophthalmology for the treatment of inflammation and for problems that occur from diabetes, macular degeneration, vascular occlusions and other ocular disorders. The doctors found by changing the way the medication was formulated, the incidence of the problem could be reduced. This has important implications for other retina specialists around the world.
