Discover the winged wonders of Lee County avian wildlife
Visit the Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserve with a bird patrol guide starting at 8 a.m. March 7 and 8. Walk about two miles for 2½ hours on a rough, possibly wet trail through habitat featuring bald eagles, hawks, warblers and a variety of wading birds.
Bring your love of nature and binoculars, sun protection, bottled water, and shoes that can get wet. Be prepared: there will be no restrooms available. The bird walks are free and no registration is required. Lee County Parks and Recreation cooperates in the walks.
The site is located in northwest Cape Coral, west of the intersection of Old Burnt Store Road and Durden Parkway. From U.S. 41, take Colonial Boulevard across toll-enforced Midpoint Memorial Bridge to Cape Coral. Colonial becomes Veteran's Parkway over the bridge. Follow Veteran's Parkway about eight miles as it turns north and becomes Burnt Store Road. Proceed north about nine miles to Durden Parkway. Turn left and head west to the end where Durden Parkway and Old Burnt Store Road intersect.
