WAFAPOOR Dr. Hussein Wafapoor, M.D., of Retina Health Center, presented the results of his research on multiple intraocular injections of the medication Avastin in the treatment of macular degeneration at the annual meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists in Maui, Hawaii. Dr. Wafapoor shared his experience treating patients who became unresponsive to conventional therapy with Avastin by either shortening the interval between doses or changing the patients to another medication, Lucentis. Dr. Wafapoor is board certified and has won numerous awards, including 2006 American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award.

Dr. M.A. Atassi, M.D., announced the opening of his new practice for diagnosis and treatment of heart disease — Heart Specialists, Inc. at 9411 Fountain Medical Court, Suite 100 in Bonita Springs. Dr. Atassi is certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Disease and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He recently served as president and CEO of Heart Specialists, Inc. in Ohio. Dr. Atassi completed his training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Throughout his career, Dr. Atassi has earned many professional awards and recognition for his experience and commitment to excellence in cardiac care.
