Speakers Assembly addresses the financial crisis and what's next

SMITH Roy C. Smith, professor of entrepreneurship and finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University, will address the members and guests of the Speakers Assembly of Southwest Florida on Friday, Jan. 23, at the Hyatt Coconut Point in Estero. A networking reception begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by Mr. Smith's presentation entitled "The Financial Crisis and What to Expect Next." Mr. Smith has been on the faculty of the Stern School of Business since 1987. Prior to assuming this appointment he was a general partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co., which he joined in 1966, specializing in international investment banking and corporate finance. Upon his retirement from the firm to join the faculty, he was the senior international partner. During his career at Goldman Sachs he served as president of Goldman Sachs International Corp.
Mr. Smith's principal areas of research include international banking and finance, all forms of entrepreneurial finance and institutional investment practice, professional conduct and business ethics. He is a frequent guest lecturer at other business schools in the U.S. and in Europe.
In addition to various articles in professional journals and op-ed pieces, he is the author of "The Global Bankers," "The Money Wars," "Comeback: The Restoration of American Banking Power in the New World Economy," "The Wealth Creators"and "Adam Smith and the Origins of American Enterprise." He is also co-author of several books and is presently working on a modern history of Wall Street, "Paper Fortunes," to be published by St. Martin's Press in 2009.
