Demon barber takes a slice out of Mann Hall
'Sweeney Todd' opens Tuesday, Jan. 27
Experience, live on stage, the musical that inspired the Tim Burton and Johnny Depp movie. "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" opens at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall Tuesday, Jan. 27, and runs through Feb. 1.
The legendary demon barber, hell-bent on revenge, takes up with his enterprising neighbor, Mrs. Lovett, in a delicious plot to slice their way through London's upper crust. Justice will be served — along with lush melody, audacious humor and bloody good thrills.
"Sweeney Todd" is directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. This dazzling reinvention of a magnificent musical thriller is set to stun theatergoers as never before.
The N.Y. Times said, "John Doyle, the show's ferociously inventive director and designer, has aimed his hypnotic interpretation of this 1979 musical at the masochistic child in everyone, the squirming tyke who wants to have his worst fears confirmed and dispelled in one breath."
