High-tech simulator helps medics save lives

A mamequin that breathes, talks, has a pulse, blood pressure and dilating pupils will now help keep Lee County medics be ready for any medical condition on humans.

Trainers recreate life or death scenarios on The SimMan by Laerdal for medics seeking to maintain or upgrade their skills.

"This is so cool because we have a patient that reacts to treatment just like a real person. We video tape the medic giving treatment and then they can see exactly what they did right, wrong and what they can improve on," said Capt. Scott Tuttle, training manager for Lee County Emergency Medical Services. "The best part is there is no harm to any patient."
