'The Moon over the Brewery' next up for the Naples Players
The Naples Players perform the romantic comedy, "The Moon over the Brewery," by Bruce Graham, from Jan. 14 through Feb. 7 at the Sugden Community Theatre, 701 Fifth Avenue South, Naples. This is a show that promises not only an entertaining evening of theater, but a chance to view (and even own) original artworks by one of Naples' most talented artists.
"The Moon over the Brewery" is the story of a struggling single mom, Miriam, and her highly precocious 13-year-old daughter, Amanda. A talented painter who works as a waitress to pay the bills, Miriam is looking to meet the right man, but Amanda, with her barbed comments and snide criticisms, manages to scare away would-be suitors. Until, that is, the mailman comes along, seemingly the perfect foil for Amanda's schemes, but somehow different from all the others . . . .
Naples artist Jackie Morelisse and a talented creative team of Naples Players volunteers have designed original paintings, tapestries, crafts, and objets d'art that make up the unique set design for this production. Using vivid colors and unusual textures, Miriam and Amanda's bright and bohemian home has been turned into the artistic expression of Miriam's passion, set against the drab and lonely backdrop of her coal mining town.
"It's been a wonderful experience, working with The Naples Players and all its talented volunteers, and bringing this production to life," said Ms. Morelisse, co-set designer of the prod uction. At the end of the production's run, The Naples Players and Ms. Morelisse will donate select pieces from her set design artwork to the United Arts Council, which will auction the items to benefit the arts in Collier County.
"The Moon Over the Brewery" is performed Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Feb. 7. Opening night (Jan. 14) theater-goers are invited to a complimentary champagne reception. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students 18 and under. This show is appropriate ages 10 and older.
Tickets are available at the Sugden Community Theatre box office, by phone at 263-7990, or at www. naplesplayers.org
