'Macbeth' comes to the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center
Something wicked comes to the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center when the reborn Federal Building downtown host its inaugural theatrical production, Shakespeare's "Macbeth," Jan 7-17.
Director Annette Trossbach says the intent is "to blow any misconceptions people might have about Shakespeare being stuffy and unapproachable out of the water by giving them the most passionate and thrilling Shakespearean production they have seen in live theater." The tragedy about the lengths to which people will go to achieve power will be set in modern times.
Southwest Florida actor John McKerrow
will play the title role; Rachael Endrizzi, known for her work at Theater
Conspiracy and Florida Repertory Theatre, plays his fiend-like wife, Lady Macbeth. The remaining cast is a blend of Shakespeare aficionados and newcomers from Tampa, Naples and Sanibel.
Because of the violence in the play, the company recommends that no one under 16 be admitted without a responsible adult. This will be a particularly bloody production, and one the company hopes will have the audience on board for more Shakespeare in future.
