New Year Low-cost Pet Vaccination & Microchip ID Clinic

On Saturday Jan. 10 from 9 a.m. until noon, Lee County Animal Services will hold a Low-cost Pet Vaccination & Microchip ID Clinic for financially disadvantaged pet owners.

For only $25 pets will receive an annual cat or dog booster, rabies vaccine, and microchip ID. Appointments are not necessary. The clinic will be held at the agency's shelter at 5600 Banner Dr., Fort Myers, next the Lee County Sheriff's Office off Six Mile Cypress Parkway.

Animal Services encourages all pet owners to keep their dogs, cats and ferrets up-to-date on vaccinations. Lee County experienced increases in positive distemper cases in 2008 so annual boosters are essential to keep pets healthy. Dogs, cats, and ferrets four months and older are required by Florida State law to be vaccinated against rabies as it is a fatal virus transmissible to humans and pets.

Owners can also purchase their pet's Lee County license at the clinic. A one year license is issued for pets receiving a one-year rabies vaccine. A three year license is issued for pets receiving a threeyear rabies vaccine. License fees are as follows: one-year license for puppies and kittens under one year of age - $8; one-year license for sterilized pets - $8; three-year license for sterilized pets - $15; one-year license for unsterilized pets - $35; three-year license for unsterilized pets - $65.

Pet owners interested in having their pet sterilized through Lee County Animal Services Low-cost Spay/Neuter Program can download a form from the agency's Web site at www.LeeLostPets.com, bring the form to the clinic on Jan. 10, and schedule an appointment to have their pet sterilized at a later date.
