. SchenkelShultz Architecture, Fort Myers designed Seminole County Public Schools' $13.2 million, 112,225-squarefoot new Midway Elementary School in Sanford near Orlando. The two-story facility is designed according to the LEED Certification requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council. Merits of the design include flexibility in customizing interior spaces, cost effectiveness and simple construction methods. The 745-student facility is a performing arts magnet school for the district and will have a strong focus on musical education, including general music, musical theater, orchestra and ballet. R.E. Harris Construction, Winter Park, serves as general contractor for the project which is slated for completion in December 2009.
