COURTESY PHOTO Legendary underwater cameraman Al Giddings was the subject of an Emmy Award-winning documentary by Cape Coral production studio Dreamtime Entertainment. Dreamtime Entertainment, a Cape Coral-based production studio, won two Emmy Awards for excellence in television for the Southeastern United States. The first Emmy was for the PBS documentary television special "Under the Sea with Al Giddings." In addition, Dreamtime videographer Sergio Munoz also shared a separate Emmy in a television news category.
"Under the Sea With Al Giddings" chronicles four decades behind the lens of legendary underwater cameraman Al Giddings. Co-Producers John Biffar and Dave Beaty began the documentary project in January through a collaboration with PBS station WLIW New York and its general manager Terrel Cass.
Mr. Giddings opened up his extensive library of natural history footage and Hollywood blockbuster cinematography. Through his extraordinary tales of adventure, working with some of the most notable scientists and directors, the film provides a glimpse into the "two camps" he worked in: natural history filmmaking and Hollywood entertainment.
Messrs. Beaty and Biffar crafted story lines from Mr. Giddings ' descriptions, weaving in animated stills from his past with actual documentary footage from Mr. Giddings' library. Interviews were shot in Pray, Mont., home to the retired underwater explorer. From the snowcovered peaks of the Rockies to the tropical seas of Palau, "Under the Sea With Al Giddings," shows the passion of his life's work, and the dedication of the show's producers.
