Shaken, Not Stirred: Florida Rep's fundraiser announced
Just in time for the opening of the latest James Bond film, "Quantum of Solace," Florida Repertory Theatre announced its Bond-themed 2009 gala fundraising event, "The Art of Bond."
The March 28 event will draw on the artistry and iconic style of the 22 Bond films, and will be held at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in the Fort Myers River District.
"It is going to be the fundraising event of the season," said Jane Lane, event chair.
"Last season's Roman Forum was a recordbreaking
success, and this season we plan to outdo ourselves."
"The Art of Bond" will allow guests to interpret and enjoy the exciting world of Agent 007 like never before. A world where anything can happen - a world of do-or-die exploits and reckless romance. Guests are encouraged to embrace the theme and arrive in costume, whether as Bond himself, one of the many unforgettable & beguiling Bond Girls or as one of his magnificently malevolent enemies.
"Live your fantasy." said Ms. Lane, "This is your chance to enter the world of James Bond, so make it memorable. Do or die."
In keeping with the tradition of last season's Roman Forum that coincided with the production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," "The Art of Bond" draws its inspiration from Florida Rep's March/April run of Joe DiPietro's action/thriller, "The Art of Murder."
Guests will have the opportunity to test their luck at Casino Royale, play with "Q's" gadgets, explore weapons of world domination, bid on exotic auction items, be seduced by the sexy cars, food, drink and music inspired by the most charismatic and capable super spy ever imagined.
Florida Rep is happy to welcome Jane Lane and Liz Abbott as co-chairs of the event, as well as auction committee chair, Lynne Tarman. Ms. Abbott is a long-time friend of Florida Rep and Ms. Lane co-chaired the 2008 Roman Forum event. Ms. Tarman brings to Florida Rep years of auction experience with the annual Cattle Baron's Ball.
"It really is a dream team planning this event," said Dr. Gerald Laboda, chairperson of Florida Rep's board of directors. "We're very fortunate to have Jane with us again this season, and happy to welcome Liz Abbott and Lynne Tarman as able associates."
The event will be held on Saturday, March 28, from 6:30 to 11 p.m. at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in the Fort Myers River District, adjacent to the Arcade Theatre. A table for 10 at the event is $1,500 and $150 for individuals. Tables and tickets are on sale now through the Florida Rep box office at 332-4488.
