Canadian Brass opens Shell Point concert series
Canadian Brass The Canadian Brass will be performing the first concert in the 2008-09 Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series in the Village Church Auditorium at Shell Point, Thursday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
"The Canadian Brass has performed in concert halls, international festivals, and orchestras throughout the world and is recognized as the world's leading brass ensemble," said Dawn Boren, director of resident life at Shell Point. "They will offer a wonderful start to this exciting season. Having various performers in this series allows for everyone who appreciates the arts and culture to enjoy the wide array of entertainment."
The quintet has a long history of recording classical repertoire and they have a special affinity for baroque music, which requires the brilliance and musical structure that has become the Canadian Brass' trademark. They have more than 60 recordings to date, which include works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Gabrieli, Pachelbel, Beethoven and Wagner. All are in meticulously crafted transcriptions that are setting new musical traditions in brass performance.
