MacDonald Dr. Melwyn D'Souza and Dr. Raynita D'Souza announced the opening of their new medical practice, Gulfcoast MD, located across from Gulf Coast Hospital, at 14090 Metropolis Ave., Suite 102, in Fort Myers. The physicians and staff at Gulfcoast MD provide quality comprehensive and preventive care to young adult and senior patients in the Fort Myers, Lehigh, Cape Coral and Estero area. They also provide consults and follow-up patient care at all five local hospitals, as well as at area skilled nursing or short term rehabilitation care centers.

Sharon MacDonald, vice president of oncology services for Lee Memorial Health System, was presented with the Saks Fifth Avenue Lifetime Achievement Humanitarian Award during the Saks and Mercedes Benz Key to the Cure event. Ms. MacDonald is a determined crusader for cancer patients and has been working for the past decade on behalf of those battling cancer right here in our community. When she came to LMHS in 1998, she had a vision to build a multidisciplinary cancer treatment center in Lee County. She teamed up with Dr. James Orr Jr. and their vision has finally become a reality. LMHS' Regional Cancer Center, which is located near Interstate 75 on Colonial Boulevard, opened to patients last week.
