Artists shine at Art Royale 2008; annual event set for Nov. 22

SPECIAL TO FLORIDA WEEKLY

Fascinating imagery, creative imaginations, and striking talent from more than 20 visual artists will be presented for the first time at Art Royale 2008. On Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m., the Alliance for the Arts campus will be will be bursting with interactive artist installations.

Here is a sneak peek at two of the exciting exhibits to expect at Art Royale 2008, Lost in Translation:

"Eat Your Words"

By Jen Riley, Anita Farren, Sarah Barendse and Josh Bandur

"Eat Your Words" is not just a popular cliché, but literally offers tasty expressions in a simulated "high-society" dinner party. Guests will be invited to take a seat and then be served the most unexpected of hors d'oeuvres.

Human feet baked in pies, and cookies decorated with common yet antagonistic phrases and innuendos such as, "It's not you it's me," " She has issues," and "I need some alone time." The artists explained the purpose of the exhibit is to inspire the participants to enjoy laughing at ourselves and to consider the impact words have or don't have when lost in the translation. This creative take on the Art Royale theme will surely spark conversation and induce memorable laughter.

"Life-size Newton's Cradle"

By Megan Kissinger

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction." Sound familiar? At Art Royale, common science is being presented with a unique visual representation. Megan Kissinger, an inspired artist, discovered a way to reveal this creation mixing art and science to construct a functional lifesized model of Newton's Cradle. Only ticketed guests will be able to explore the third law of motion in a larger than life scale. There will be no boring lecture or classroom here. Bowling balls replace the usual mini metal balls, physically requiring suspension from steel cables, turnbuckles, and 6-foot frames of wood.

"By translating text into pictures, I was able to better understand and then communicate the information that was required of me. I was no longer 'Lost in Translation.'" said Ms. Kissinger.

Motivated by art and captured by physics, guests will be able to launch the balls and witness the law of motion in action bigger than ever before.

Purchase tickets in advance or in groups for a discounted price. This is the most anticipated, provocative and expressive art experience of the year. Be there to discover the unmarked boundaries and artistic expression of Art Royale Lost in Translation on Nov. 22. For tickets, call 939-2787 or visit the Art Royale Web site at www.artroyale. org.
