Architecture
Marrufo Maria Isabel Marrufo Lopez, assistant
project manager for Gora/McGahey Associates in Architecture, has been named Employee of the Year by the Lee County Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board. The annual Hispanic Achievement Awards recognize individuals who project a positive Hispanic image in the community. Ms. Marrufo, a native of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, became a licensed architect in Mexico, despite cultural barriers that discourage women from seeking professional degrees. She holds a degree in architecture from the Universidad Autonoma de Yucatan and is currently working toward becoming a licensed architect in the United States.
