High def enhances BIG ARTS film series
BIG ARTS Film Society will introduce enhanced audio visual technology at BIG ARTS this year. A new high definition projector will provide higher resolution images with more clarity and sharpness in the comfort of Schein Hall, which also boasts surround sound. BIG ARTS Film Society has chosen awardwinning films, both a mix of new releases independent and foreign films as well as a couple of classics for the everpopular Monday night film series "Windows on the World." Refreshments and lively discussions follow each film.
The film series opens on Monday, Oct. 20 with "The Golden Door." The film possesses an open feel and an optimism one would never expect from a film about immigrants in the 1900s. The film starts in Sicily, where a widowed father, Salvatore, makes the difficult voyage to America with his family. They meet a mysterious and refined British woman who says she needs to find a man to marry before arriving in New York. The reasons are never fully explained, but Salvatore is attracted to her, and so he agrees. As the characters travel to America, their minds open up to a new way of seeing.
