Eagle Eye
REVIEWED BY DNA SMITH Special to Florida Weekly............

Running Time: 117 minutes
MPAA rating: PG-13
The last movie that teamed director D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBeouf was "Disturbia," the stupid and shoddily made rip-off of Hitchcock's "Rear Window." A rip-off that stole so much from the source material that a lawsuit has been filed claiming the movie was an unauthorized remake.
Their latest team-up is a high-tech, ridiculous rip-off of "The Man Who Knew Too Much." This movie is so lame that I'm tempted to file a lawsuit myself, not only to get my money back, but to place a restraining order against Caruso and LaBeouf from ever making another movie again.
Here's the plot: A supercomputer called ARI, developed by the government to combat terrorism, has the power to control every electronic device in the country: cell phones, traffic lights, LED billboards, trains, GPS systems on cars, you name it. ARI is so powerful it has become self-aware (like HAL in "2001").
A botched covert operation has convinced ARI that the president can no longer be trusted with issues of national security, so the computer sets into motion a series of preposterous events involving LaBeouf and co-star Michelle Monaghan that will lead ultimately to the murder of the president using an explosive crystal and a detonator hidden in the saxophone of Monaghan's young son.
Between the brain-dead script, choppy editing and horrible acting, the only way "Eagle Eye" could be worse is if Caruso had included Kate Hudson in the cast.
Avoid this movie like the plague. Instead, go to the video store and rent the far superior "The Man Who Knew Too Much."
