Public invited to Sports Expo AT FGCU
October is Disabilities Awareness Month, and in an effort to raise awareness, Florida Gulf Coast University's Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Adaptive Services invite Southwest Florida to the Eighth Annual Adaptive Sports Expo. The event runs from Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 2-4 on the FGCU campus.
The event will highlight some of the ways people with disabilities can be active participants in both recreational activities and sporting events.
It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will include sports and leisure activities such as water-skiing, sailing, kayaking, aquatics, wheelchair basketball, tandem biking, tennis and an accessible climbing wall.
Professionally trained facilitators and athletes with disabilities will provide demonstrations and instruct participants in a variety of recreational and sporting activities in a non-competitive environment. Attendees will be exposed to a variety of local service agencies, vendors and groups involved with recreational opportunities through an informational exposition, which takes place in conjunction with planned sports activities.
Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 2 at Alico Arena. The event is free and prior experience is not required.
