Learn the ins and outs of the digestive system

Sanibel seminar will focus on the stomach

Since the invention of Tums and the little purple pill, digestive issues have become a common topic of conversation in the doctor's office. Too little acid? Too much acid? Stomach pain? Chronic inflammation? Chronic constipation or diarrhea? All these signal that something has gone awry with this important function.

Carol Simontacchi of the Island Nutrition Center will facilitate a no-charge seminar and discussion group called "The Ins and Outs of Digestion." The event will be held at the Island Nutrition Center, 1633 Periwinkle Way, on Oct. 9 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Discussion topics include a brief overview of how digestion works, the importance of appropriate stomach acid levels, and what to do when things go wrong.

Space is limited; reservations are required Call the Island Nutrition Center (239) 472- 4499 to reserve a space.

Simontacchi, who writes a column in Florida Weekly, will be hosting a series of health seminars through the winter. Upcoming topics include cardiovascular health, chronic pain and inflammation, fatigue, and bone health. Simontacchi is a certified lifestyle educator with FirstLine Therapy.
